Karin holds more than 30 years of healthcare regulatory and legal experience focused on compliance with laws necessary for operations, company reputation, and risk reduction. Her focus areas include privacy/HIPAA/cybersecurity, compliance with healthcare laws and regulations, and management of government matters related to fraud and abuse laws (False Claims Act, Stark, Anti-Kickback) and healthcare operations. In her experience working as corporate counsel at publicly traded and nonprofit healthcare corporations, she represented hospital systems, healthcare facilities, and providers. With prior experience as an R.N. in academic health systems and work in quality and risk management, Karin assists providers with clinical operations assessments to help clients implement best practices. Karin is a licensed and practicing attorney in PYA’s Legal Department and advises the firm on legal matters involving privacy, contracts, and business operations.
Karin earned a Doctorate of Jurisprudence degree from the University of Tennessee College of Law and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Clemson University. She serves on the Executive Council of the Tennessee Bar Association and is a national speaker on healthcare compliance and privacy for the American Health Law Association, Health Care Compliance Association, and other respected organizations. Additionally, Karin has served as a professor of health law at Lincoln Memorial University.
