Bhat Discusses Data Considerations for Healthcare Arrangements at National Law Conference

Annapoorani Bhat, Consulting Principal and Charlotte Managing Principal, will present at the American Bar Association’s Emerging Issues in Healthcare Law Conference April 2-5 in Long Beach, Calif. The conference covers compelling topics in healthcare law from leading experts on the future of federal and state healthcare programs, medical-legal partnerships, big data, updates to the Stark Law, and more.

On April 3, Bhat will be joined by Adria Warren, Partner, Foley & Lardner LLP, to present, “A Bite of the Byte: Legal and Valuation Considerations Related to Healthcare Data Arrangements/Transactions.” The session will cover technological advancements in artificial intelligence that generate opportunities for physician practices, hospitals, and health systems to leverage patient data within the structure of joint ventures, licensing arrangements, and joint development agreements.

During their presentation, Bhat and Warren will

  • Discuss examples of transactions and arrangements that leverage healthcare data
  • Provide an overview of legal and regulatory considerations, including privacy and security/HIPAA, fraud and abuse laws, and antitrust regulations
  • Discuss the role of data in value-based care
  • Examine complexities of determining fair market value and propose valuation approaches
  • Provide case studies of actual arrangements

The American Bar Association promotes legal education, competence, and ethical conduct; provides resources for members’ professional growth; and advocates for respect for the rule of law.
